Nikola is a company working to change the world by developing zero emission trucks and the infrastructure needed to produce and distribute fuel to them.  We’re now looking for our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and implement world-class assembly processes for our state of the art all-electric and fuel-cell-electric semi-trucks.  This will include working in all stages of the vehicle development process; from clay models to fully functional vehicles.  This is a high focus and demanding position that will require an individual that can demonstrate through knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes with capability to lead a team of engineers for new product and process development. 

In this key role, you’ll lead a team of engineers to:

  • Understand and coordinate the development of all necessary PFMEA’s and required control plans based on known DFMEA and Process definitions
  • Ensure processes support the product design for ergonomics, efficiency, and quality
  • Develop system layouts (factory flow) for the manufacturing process
  • Develop all work instructions based on standard time data that supports production cycle times
  • Develop manufacturing bill of materials and processes utilizing engineering BOM and best practices
  • Develop all tooling and equipment list and technical specifications for all operator hand tools, power tools, fixtures, assembly aids and automated equipment
  • Design of Manufacturing Equipment and Fixtures working closely with external equipment suppliers on equipment design
  • Develop proper error proofing (poke-a-yoke) systems with focus on design before process solutions
  • Define equipment approval procedures including supplier runoffs, contractor installation and final validation and approval at factory sites

Additionally, you will:

  • Direct interface with Product Designers and Engineers to develop future vehicle designs with Design for Manufacturing focus
  • Develop Manufacturing processes based on best practices
  • Focus on lean systems and methods for manufacturing – value added operations, minimize waste, production systems, material strategies, focus on the operator & safety
  • Develop common manufacturing requirements documents and help create standard tool libraries
  • Develop timing schedules to support on time production launch
  • Co-ordinate all manufacturing requirements with external groups, including design engineering, PLM, vehicle integration
  • Develop systems for change management, including co-ordination of product design changes and vehicle configurations
  • Lead launch activities for area of responsibility from program kick-off through ramp acceleration.
  • Support/Create Simulation Builds and 3D simulations
  • Ensure all timing milestones are met and are being tracked in relation to the program master schedule
  • Flexible to support travel for product development reviews (minimum 20%)

To be successful in this role we’ll expect you to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering – Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Materials
  • Minimum (10) ten years’ experience
  • Must be self-motivated, with a desire to continuously improve, learn and provide creative solutions
  • Experience using CAD. Proficiency in CATIA V6 and 3DX suite of CATIA/ENOVIA/DELMIA is a plus
  • Working experience in electric vehicle or new automotive technology preferred. Class 8 truck manufacturing experience desired
  • Proficient working knowledge of automotive manufacturing process and constraints
  • Demonstrate an ability to manage complex projects with tight timing constraints, providing examples of such scenarios throughout one’s career
  • Effective problem solver with knowledge and experience utilizing structured problem-solving methodology and experience introducing new products
  • New vehicle or model project launch experience from initial concept to final production
  • Factory greenfield or brownfield experience strongly preferred, including equipment commissioning and process development
  • Exceptional organizational ability with good follow up skills and attention to details is a must
  • Demonstrated strength and expertise in at least one manufacturing area, with diversity in other functions/departments
  • Strong leadership abilities with knowledge and skills to lead a highly successful team for launch of new products in a greenfield production facility
  • High degree of willingness to challenge accepted manufacturing processes and standards with an interest in innovation

Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada.  This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
