We are on the lookout for an HMI EE Component Design and Release Engineer for the Highspeed Electronic Hardware group (HEH) to own EE component design, development, packaging, testing, calibration, and releasing. As the EE Component Design and Release Engineer you will interface with multiple engineering groups including Hardware, Systems, Software and Mechanical Engineering to define vehicle functional specifications. You will be a key player working in a hardware engineering design team. The HEH team designs high speed digital products such as Vehicle Head Units, Instrument clusters, Infotainment clusters, etc. and is responsible for the selection, specification and supplier management of entertainment radios, navigational systems, cameras, and similar.

YOU WILL:

  • Perform gap analyses of your component compliance to specific EU homologation requirements such as ECE R130, R100, R10, and more
  • Assess vehicle and system level functional safety requirements guided by ISO26262 to understand and be accountable for your components responsibility within the safety architecture
  • Set up project timelines for following up with the maturity of components from selection, sourcing, technical development to PPAP and production
  • Develop, review and support component level technical specifications
  • Create and present technical presentations at a high level for program management in design tech reviews.
  • Participate in Product Assurance Planning (Program Management)
  • Participate in performing component DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis), DVRR (Design Validation and Reliability Report), and Timing Proactive Quality Plan.
  • Support the company in all build phases of the vehicle, from experimental to production release. 
  • Participate in Reactive Quality Problem Solving and will be supporting
  • Supplier Quality during Process Sign-off (PS) and PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis)
  • Responsible for releasing components via Change Management System (CN’s) and will interface with supplier quality, purchasing, program management, however mostly with suppliers
  • Maintain part release system for Nikola produced and OTS, COTS components
  • Generate and review 2D drawings and 3D Models.
  • Maintain specifications and internal product wiki for E/E parts used in our vehicles.
  • Familiar with the design release process using the 3DExperience system (Product lifecycle management and CATIA V6).
  • Review engineering change documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Communicate to supplier the content and status of the design, design changes, and build requirements
  • Manage cost studies for changes with suppliers
  • Update engineering issues in change management systems Engineering Customer Interface
  • Perform and/or lead supplier interface for technical issues and program engineering deliverables in country
  • Travel to Supplier manufacturing locations for supplier development, ramp-up
  • Represent Nikola Engineering at change control meetings and design reviews (e.g., technical design review, system compatibility review, etc.)
  • Support vehicle builds and launches at pilot and assembly plants

YOU HAVE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) 
  • 5+ years of component development experience
  • Full understanding of automotive electronic component development process
  • Familiar with EU homologation requirements such as ECE R130, R100, R10, and more
  • ISO 26262 Functional Safety experience is a plus
  • Human Machine Interface product familiarity
  • Proficient in Microsoft project for setting up project timelines
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally

Preferred Requirements:

  • Familiarity with high speed digital interfaces such as PCIe, SPI, GTH, GTRs
  • Knowledge or experience with SoCs, SOMs, GPS, HMI designs
  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience managing suppliers and/or engineers
  • Familiar with electrical architecture and wiring
  • Familiar with Audio or Sound System Exp
  • Familiar with Ethernet and CAN/CAN-FD protocols
  • Outstanding communication and organization skills
