We are on the lookout for a Controls Engineer to join our Body Controls Engineering team.  You will work closely with other Nikola's Battery Electric Vehicle Controls engineers to help develop and manage internal and external controls work to provide production ready body control systems for Nikola’s Vehicles.  You will also support the calibration and testing of the systems to meet vehicle requirements.  Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

You Will:

  • Develop and maintain control software for cutting-edge electric vehicles in Simulink
  • Take ownership of the software you develop through testing and validation, both on lab bench and in vehicle
  • Work with embedded/integration/cross-functional engineers to implement, test, debug and calibrate control algorithms in our trucks
  • Gain a detailed knowledge of electric vehicle systems and architecture
  • Interact with a highly skilled team in a fast-paced environment
  • Provide support for troubleshooting all system related issues

You'll Need:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Knowledge of software development in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Basic background in Model-based and Embedded controls design
  • Experience in software development, testing and validation
  • Basic proficiency in C/C++ programming
  • Basic understanding of Microcontrollers/Microprocessors Architectures
  • Basic understanding of A/D & D/A Converters, GPIO, PWM, Timers, Interrupts and other embedded peripheral interfaces
  • Basic understanding of Serial Communication protocols like U(S)ART, SPI, I2C, CAN & LIN
  • Functional understanding of automotive/truck operation
  • An interest in electrical vehicle controls
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally – up to 20% of the time.
  • No restrictions with access to government contractors and military testing facilities
  • Hands-on experience working with vehicles


Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization. This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
