We’re on the lookout for a Fleet Maintenance & Serviceability Engineer that will help design and create our Service and Maintenance programs.  We’re looking for a hands-on expert who can help Nikola secure a zero emissions future with our hydrogen fuel cell electric, and all electric class 8 semi-trucks and vocational chassis. This new position will support a broad strategy to help deliver world class service and maintenance to customer fleets in the U.S. and be part of a collaborative team responsible for timely servicing, preventative maintenance, and asset productivity uptime.  

In this role you’ll work directly with initial design, upfit and engineering teams to keep the fleets running and ensure that future services and repairs are performed efficiently. Initial responsibilities will include direct partnership with key fleet customers and having full operational understanding and developing successful launch criteria. Ongoing continuous improvement and advancements will be incorporated by leveraging technician feedback and vehicle performance.  

You’ll also: 

  • Work cross-functionally to scale serviceability and maintenance for fleet of BEV and Hydrogen-Electric class 8 trucks 
  • Work directly with key upfit partners (internal & external) for successful integration of BEV chassis with body in possible vocational applications
  • Develop robust and scalable processes to reduce engineering and technician time to scale and support the fleet 
  • Understand unique applications and use of assets with field route reviews and observations to incorporate all aspects of ‘real world’ use into design and end product  
  • Work to drive continuous improvement into the design, operation, and maintenance of the vehicles based on field findings 
  • Proactively looks for and drive improvements to process and design to support safety, maintainability, and reliability 
  • Improve fleet reliability by identifying key gaps within service and warranty issue tracking
This type of engagement requires a ‘hands on’ approach and a person who loves being where the work happens.  Additionally, we’re looking for someone with: 
  • An intimate working knowledge of preventive & predictive maintenance method
  • BS ME with at least 4 years’ experience with HD trucks (class 6-8) or BEVs 
  • Having some high voltage background knowledge and experience is beneficial
  • 2 or more years’ experience with Catia software 
  • Effective communication skills able to work across internal functions and collaboratively with external partners  
  • Hands on manufacturing and/or repair service experience
  • Technician, electronics, electric vehicle backgrounds, helpful
Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada.  This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
