We’re currently on the lookout for a Manager of FCEV Vehicle Controls Development who will be responsible for the development of vehicle controls in Nikola’s Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle platforms. As Nikola’s Vehicle Controls Development Manager, you will be an important cog to implementing the Controls team’s solutions from the components to the full vehicle level.

You Will:
  • Be responsible for the team that defines and manages the overall functional control strategy of the FCEV powertrain and thermal control systems from concept to post-production
  • Lead activities to create and implement functional requirements including functional safety, operational strategy, state machine definition, diagnostics, and many more
  • Lead definition of appropriate system level engineering targets to meet function, quality, and attribute requirements of the vehicle programs.
  • Lead resolution of design, attribute, or packaging incompatibilities through deep collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Support the purchasing team in sourcing and RFQ activities
  • Support the vehicle launch and pre-production builds (both virtual and physical)
  • Lead recruitment and team development for your reporting staff, and provide guidance to powertrain on the development of this critical capability in terms of resources and facilities
You Have:
  • Minimum of 7 or more years related experience in automotive controls and at least 2 years in a lead or management role with direct reports
  • Class 8 truck experience highly desirable
  • BEV, Hybrid, or FCEV vehicle architecture which includes High Voltage Battery Systems, Low Voltage Systems, Powertrain, Structures, Chassis/Suspension, Braking & Vehicle Software/Firmware
  • Knowledge of software structure and development from requirements derivation to software verification
  • Familiarity with Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and SW strategies to fulfill safety goals
  • Strong collaboration, communication, team building, data analytics, KPI, and technical writing skills
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally
