Description

Nikola Corporation in partnership with Wabash Valley Resources will contribute to the national energy transition by deploying a large-scale hydrogen production and carbon capture sequestration project in West Terre Haute, Indiana.  With existing assets, application of proven technologies, and partnerships with industry leaders, Nikola and Wabash Valley Resources will be first-to-market with clean, dispatchable, and reliable hydrogen production at prices competitive with traditional production methods.

The Wabash Valley Resources project will redevelop the Wabash River IGCC plant, located in West Terre Haute, IN into a 14,000 kg/hr hydrogen production facility. The project will capture carbon dioxide that is normally emitted from the hydrogen purification process and permanently store it deep underground in formations of the Illinois Basin.   The redeveloped site will utilize solid feedstock blended with biomass fuels to achieve a net-zero carbon intensity hydrogen product.

Nikola is now looking for an experienced Project Engineer responsible for preparing, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring the assigned engineering projects for the Wabash Facility.  This position will be responsible for interfacing with the EPC Engineering Contractor and review deliverables.  This will include among others Equipment and Piping Specifications, P&ID’s, and Material Selection Guides. This position reports to the Project Director.

The Project Engineer shall work in a safe manner that promotes goals of the Company by supporting site EHS activities through compliance with all environmental, health and safety policies/procedures, and through active participation in EHS programs and initiatives.

In this key role you will participate in basic project management activities required for successful execution of the project.  This will include among other responsibilities managing schedules, work plans, resource forecasts, meetings, and action items.  You will participate in facility inspections and detail findings will be reported to project management.  You will coordinate inspections of the existing Gasification Facility in a fitness-for-service assessment based on industry best practices and API standards and policies.   In addition, you’ll update estimates based on these findings and ensure compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering and a minimum 10 years of project development and project engineering.

The goals of the Wabash Valley Resources LLC (WVR) project are as follows:

  • WVR will redevelop the idle Wabash River Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) facility to produce low-cost hydrogen to be utilized in power generation, chemical synthesis, and mobility markets.
  • WVR will produce hydrogen with the lowest carbon intensity of any large-scale production facility in the United States, through the innovative deployment of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS).
  • Wabash Valley Resources will minimize the local community impact of operations and ensure the safe and reliable supply of hydrogen.
