Description

The  Senior/Staff Electrical Design Engineer on the Advanced Mechatronics team at the Chassis Engineering will perform and lead the analysis, validation and release of electronic control systems on one or more of the following systems:

  • Electronically controlled air suspensions
  • Electrically controlled brake systems
  • Electronically controlled steering systems
  • Pneumatic system controls for heavy trucks
  • Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving (AD) technology

 

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, manufacturing, testing, and validation teams on the complete life cycle of the project through product launch, and implementation of lessons learned on subsequent products (cradle-to-cradle responsibility).

Duties will include:

  • Apply fundamental physics to lead progression of design maturity from initial concept, to product launch, to next concept
  • Work closely with Electronics & Controls team to develop control system design and test specifications
  • Lead the control system feature requirement development
  • Lead the progression of integrating multiple electronic control units to product launch
  • Lead CAN communication verification and control system interface definition
  • Lead system engineering for chassis electronic controls
  • Generate and review electronic schematics for control systems
  • Support definition of appropriate vehicle/ system-level engineering targets to meet function, quality and attribute requirements of the Vehicle Program
  • Support development and validation of Vehicle/System Design Specifications incorporating company/industry/regulatory standards and test procedures
  • Ensure system meets targets
  • Support resolution of control system design, attribute or performance gap through deep collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Develop and maintain the Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) including both in-house and supplier testing plans, and ensure sign-off tests are completed on schedule
  • Troubleshoot and resolve all validation issues
  • Support vehicle launch and pre-production builds (both virtual and physical)

REQUIREMENTS

  • in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related degree
  • Strong grasp of mechatronics including electronics, control systems, and system dynamics
  • Experience using control system simulation and modeling tools
  • Understanding vehicle dynamics and controls preferable
  • Excellent communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related degree
  • 5+ years automotive industry electrical, design or product development experience
  • Experience in vehicle and its subsystem electronic architecture
  • Experience in CAN network
  • Working knowledge of control systems, control design and validation, control parameter calibration
  • Working knowledge of various sensors used in vehicle controls
  • Working knowledge of electronic vehicles and electrical propulsion systems
  • Familiarity with automotive/heavy truck electronics
  • Familiarity with FMEA

Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada.  This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
