Description

We are seeking a Sr. Simulation Engineer that will be responsible for FCEV powertrain systems modeling including fuel cell, HV Battery, e-axle and thermal systems. You will work to develop models of the vehicle FC
powertrain and components and use those models to define vehicle requirements and validate controls. You will work closely with Nikola's powertrain engineering teams to develop controls design for powertrain systems.

You Have:
  • BS in ME, EE, or other related Engineering field, MS preferred
  • Years of experience 6+
  • Lead activities for developing and integrating new or advanced technologies for improving vehicle and system efficiencies to attain targeted vehicle fuel economy
  • Document impacts/trade-offs to vehicle performance, drivability and powertrain durability (fuel cell, battery, and e-Driveline)
  • A strong understanding of the first-principle physics behind vehicle dynamic performance or FCEV propulsion systems (fuel cell, battery, and motor & inverter)
  • Strong knowledge in MATLAB/Simulink and GT Suite/Autolion
  • Experience in building plant models and performing simulations of fuel cell, battery and electrified powertrains
  • Efficient use of simulation models to validate vehicle controls and functional safety
  • Experience in model-based system design in MATLAB/Simulink environment
  • Ability to develop vehicle and powertrain controls algorithms
  • Solid understanding of system/component design/development processes
  • Familiar with git version control
Preferred Experience:
  • Broad understanding in electrochemical system, especially for fuel cell or battery industry
  • Establishing targets for future fuel economy performance through analysis of current diesel heavy duty truck, as well as electrified heavy duty truck
  • Knowledge of classical control theory, optimal controls, adaptive controls, MPC, ECMS, and state-space modeling
  • Familiarity with hybridization strategies/ energy management and regenerative braking algorithm
  • Familiarity with tools such as Vector CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape
  • Proficiency with CAN, LIN Communication Protocols
Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada. This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
