We are on the lookout for a Senior Vehicle Electrical Validation Engineer that will perform a critical role in developing and executing vehicle validation tests for vehicle level electrical systems on Nikola Motor’s Various Vehicle Product lines. The ideal candidate will have a passion for understanding how vehicle electrical systems work and how they can fail.

As the Senior Vehicle Electrical Validation Engineer, you will have an immediate impact on the Verification and Validation team at Nikola Motor and support the development of world-class, industry-leading electric vehicles.

You Will:
  • Create vehicle level test reports
  • Participate in root cause analysis and failure analysis activities
  • Support the development of acceptance criteria for vehicle level validation tests
  • Participate in inspecting and identifying electrical and software vehicle issues
  • Create detailed Vehicle Level Electrical Test Plans
  • Correlate test data to vehicle level requirements to ensure vehicle electrical systems meet targets and acceptance criteria at the vehicle level
  • Document and track all issues discovered by electrical validation testing activities and lead issue resolution efforts
  • Work with EE design teams and systems teams to resolve issues found during validation testing
  • Manage and track all electrical vehicle testing schedules and highlight and prioritize critical path tests
You Have:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Electronic Engineering
  • Minimum of 10+ years of Vehicle Electrical Validation experience
  • Experience with Vector CANalyzer, PCAN, or other relevant CAN analysis tools
  • Strong background in working with and testing of High Voltage Systems and Low Voltage Control Systems
  • Experienced with high voltage components including motors, inverters, and battery systems
  • Experience with high voltage distribution, interfaces, controls, and safety mechanisms
  • Ability to analyze and translate requirements and technical specifications into quantifiable vehicle validation tests and checks
  • Highly Experienced and responsible for design and creation Electrical Vehicle System-level DVP/Rs and Test Procedures
  • Ability to detect design issues during validation testing and provide design improvement feedback to design teams
  • Experience with designing and fabricating test harnessing and electrical fixturing
  • Experience driving a wide range of vehicle types and ability to identify issues or potential areas of the vehicle that require improvements for all high voltage and low voltage vehicle systems
  • Experienced with EMI and ESD Validation, requirements, and standards
  • Experience with durability validation of vehicle level electrical systems
  • Capable of using hand and power tools
  • Experience using multimeters and amp meters
  • Strong technical writing skills are a must
  • Able to effectively communicate and work cross-functionally across all technical teams and disciplines
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Must have an active driver’s license with a clean driving history
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with full electric vehicle architecture and have a strong understanding of High Voltage Battery Systems, Low Voltage Systems, Powertrain Systems, and Software/Firmware
  • Data Analysis and Simulation experience with MATLAB or other relevant tools.
  • Experience with developing and updating vehicle KPIs and targets for validation testing
  • Proven ability to identify and solve complex engineering problems
  • Experience designing high voltage and control systems for electric vehicles
  • MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Electronic Engineering a plus
  • ISO 26262 Functional Safety experience is a plus
