We’re currently on the lookout for a Vehicle Calibration Engineer who will be responsible for the calibration and verification of powertrain, thermal, and body systems on Nikola’s European vehicle programs. This engineer will be integral in the optimization of the vehicle’s powertrain and vehicle control performance. The candidate will work closely with Nikola's US controls engineers and embedded systems engineers to tune control systems for electric vehicle. As Nikola’s Vehicle Calibration Engineer, you will have broad influence throughout the entire project while disrupting the status quo as we secure a zero-emissions future with our hydrogen fuel cell electric, class 8 semi-truck.

You Will:
  • Perform calibration of control software for cutting-edge electric semi-trucks
  • Develop documentation to support your calibration activities
  • Support engineering, vehicle commissioning, and validation activities, both on bench and in vehicle, across various test and development facilities
  • Interact with a highly skilled team in a fast-paced environment
You Have:
  • 2+ years of experience in a calibration role performing in-vehicle calibration
  • Expert ability with CANape, INCA, or similar ECU calibration tools
  • Expert ability with CANalyzer or similar CAN bus analysis tools
  • An ability to read and understand software documentation
  • Experience with project management tools such as JIRA, JAMA. etc.
  • Functional understanding of electric vehicle operation
  • An ability to apply root cause analysis to bring complex problems to resolution
  • Knowledge of controls topics such as PID control and MPC control
  • Hands-on experience working with vehicles
  • An ability to read and understand Simulink models
